Grape Growing Made Easy!

So you want to expand your garden with a few grapes, eh? Well you've come to the right place, this article will help you start as a grape grower and give you a few tips on making the most of your grapes.
First things first, you must decide what kind of grapes you want to use for your grape growing. What do I mean what kind? Well, I mean whether you want to grow delectable table grapes that are meant to be eaten immediately, soft, slip skin grapes that can wait a while to be ingested while you slip them out of their skin, or sour and bitter grapes that are best made for wine, AKA, wine grapes.
It makes a big difference in your grape growing which one you decide on, and you should always be sure to do your research first! With that said, let's cover the basics with any grapes; step by step, here's how you'll go about grape growing:
1. First identify the type of grape you want to plant, and then get to choosing a variety. Don't think you'll be able to grow a Green Sultana in the cooler northern states!
2. After you've got a grasp of your grape, it's time to dig deep... into the soil, that is! Make sure you shift the soil around until its loamy and soft. This is the perfect grape growing soil!
3. Plant! That's right, time to actually put the grape in the soil! Make sure you plant your grape vine or seeds deep into the ground- a good foot or two would be ideal- that you created.
4. Let the sun shine down. It sounds simple, but you should have made sure your location was pretty sunny, so the grapes will get ample time in the sunlight. Just let these grow for a few months.
5. Train your vines. This is also simple, but something that a lot of grape growing people avoid or don't get around to. You must make sure your vines don't get tangled or intertwined and to do this you should neatly separate them and trail them around trellises or arbors or whatever you wish.
6. Pruning. Grape growing would not be complete without some good old fashioned pruning shears! This is the final step, and it's also the hardest for most to get right. Just bring out your pruning shears and prune grapevines so that they split away from the trunk in the directions you wish, but don't do so until after the first year you have them planted.
Well now you're done! It's all pretty simple, but it can take a while, just like everything else you're growing. For more info, visit this page on Easy Grape Growing. If you want to take your grape growing prowess to the next level, though, check out The Art of Growing Grapes.
